dzChapter 9: Detoniturorum. The title is Latin (anyone know Latin?) and has a couple of different meanings in the context of this coming chapter. Hope you enjoy!

In other news, I think this chapter cover is one of Jeff’s best pieces of art ever.

jeffThis was a fun cover to draw, but also time to define Uncia a little more. Also, to work on its snarl expression. As was highlighted, its nose creases are much more defined. D.Z seems to love it but I’m unsure atm, comment below what you think tho.

As always, you can check out the higher res version on my DeviantArt and FurAffinity galleries linked below.

EDIT: New PC rig, which means I can record gaming sessions again! Suggest games I should play through, and whether I should commentate or not either here or on my YouTube channel.

    I love this cover…

Detono, detonare. "to thunder down; explode".
-Implies a massive amount of energy being unleashed or colliding with surrounding matter.
    -Where we get "detonate".
The suffix "rorum" implies genitive plural case.
Sounds like "their thundering" or "of their thundering"… I could be wrong.
    That's all I got, sorry.

Agreed, now in this corner we have Panthera vs Aether (and whatever back up he (or she) cooks up in the other corner…

  3. Kitty

Holy cow does he/she look fierce here

  4. Darren McRoy

Close, but there's a bit more grammatical jujitsu involved. :-)

    -turorum

Uhhggg, is it a participle? Those kill me. I'm guessing masculine gender, genitive case, and plural number? But shouldn't it be followed by a “sum” form? Oh wait… is it future active? Why does Latin have some many cases? @.@ *nerd spaz fit*

  6. Darren McRoy

    Yep, future active.

  7. Jeffrey Hope

Very much so. I like the scare factor here.

  8. The Aussie Bloke

Combo attack time again? And without Pardus around… Hmm…

Leo + Onca = Mudslide. Tigris + Onca = Steam Explosion

  9. Hchano

Tigris + Leo = Lava burst?? XD

  10. taiyoutenshi

More like Tigris + Leo = Volcano XD

  11. The Aussie Bloke

We've seen Leo+Tig/Leo+Pard/Pard+Tig combos before. I'm more curious about what ideas they'll have for combining with onca. Pardus + Onca is an easy one: Typhoon!

"Deton Iturorum" Directly translates as "Cease Thundering go".
I assume it is directed towards the new arrival.

  13. nony

    I'm confused…

  14. Darren McRoy

Not quite. For one thing, it's a future tense… for another, "cease thundering" is only one translation of "detonare." But it is one translation… and one of the meanings.

Honestly, I'd say this is possibly the best cover so far. My first impression was something along the lines of "Oh god, it's going to leap through the screen and kill me".

  16. GUEST

    Leo+Pard=Onca! ^.^

  17. GUEST

Will you stop thundering? I don't know Latin. I know Spanish… sorta.

  18. edwardslade

You know, I saw this and my first thought was: "I am kitty, hear me roar!" …oops? And while I am delighted to have my favorite big cat featured in the story finally (I've been wanting a snow leopard since hte beginning) I'm so sad to see it be a villain…oh well, I can live with it.

  19. Gunsolo

Quidquid Latine dictum sit, altum videtur.

  20. GUEST

    =Leopard, geddit?

  21. GUEST

NO HABLO LATIN! Tengo triste ahora. Por que no se nada!
    How's my Spanish?

    Another delay?
