Was it ever decided which two C-blockers are sharing a room?

On the topic of language: How did that come about? Did Abel and Sabra, having the combination of (no other way to communicate) + (the desire to communicate a lot), start conventionalizing signals that the others then picked up and innovated upon, or did Kayje + Stark etc. supervise our creation of some signals for use in training, or did other team members establish signals on their own, or...?

We never did decide it. As far as language, Kayje himself is a linguist. Probably helped in developing the language for his group some. And the microphone thing, they're still disabled from events on day four that haven't been fleshed out RP wise. I'll send the basic details to you.

I think it's unlikely that we would be able to use our animal-form language in human form. The vocal apparatus is completely different, so the sounds aren't likely to work. Canon seems to support this, as we never see the team speaking Growl in human shape that I can recall, and when Tigris tries to talk while shifting, she slips between English and Growl.

Never seen a cat say "I love you"? ;)

Hmm, thinking about it I'm not sure, on the one hand it is a different mouth but in all honesty I would have thought there'd be a heck of a lot of crossover sounds that could be said in both. I would imagine that speaking in human form would sound like one hell of an accent, but still broadly intelligible. Will's little bit of speech is a lot simpler than everyone else's so I could change it so he stumbles his way though if it would help.

I'm not so sure. The sinuses and mouth are shaped differently, so vowels will sound completely different; the lips are different in shape and musculature, so Growl's plosive-analogue will be quite different, and the tongue is different in make-up as well, so you won't be able to do fricatives the same way.

Fair point, but just because the sounds are warped doesn't mean that it would be unintelligible. One thing I've observed with thick accents is that they often have quite different vowel and consonant pronunciation, however that just makes people difficult to understand rather than impossible. This would be a very extreme case of that, possibly too extreme, but character wise Will is stubborn enough to learn "growl" in human form just so he doesn't have to be a fox amongst wolves.

To be fair, it doesn't really bother me, but Will likes to keep things close to his chest so it seems natural he would try and communicate sensitive information in a language that only a half dozen people know.

I tend to look at those videos the same as I look at EVP--it doesn't actually sound like much of anything until someone tells you what it's supposed to sound like. ;)

That being said, I'd have to agree with Trails on this one... :/ but on the other hand, Will can always TRY and talk their code language while in human form, but it doesn't necessarily mean the others will understand it. Which I know that I would find hilarious.

One thing I waned to ask about, now that posting with the animal shorthand is starting up: how are we going to mark the difference between the two? It's only a matter of time before our two groups start posting together, and keeping it straight may be difficult.

Thus far, the canine group has been using <'s, and I know if there's any sort of language my group has come up with it will be more feline-friendly. I know w_s suggested colors, but I'm wondering what will happen with people who already post in another color. Would brackets be easier? Like <words> versus //words//, or something else? Or do people prefer the color-coding? I'm just looking for a definite "this is how we will do it," mind you, I don't actually care what that way IS :)

I personally like the idea of color-coding.

So... blue/green, then, to avoid confusion since you use red in your posts? :) Or I guess someone using purple could work... *shrugs*

I use color=#BF4000, which I call burnt orange. Compare:
red #FF0000
Other options:
yellow #FFFF00
green #00FF00
cyan #00FFFF
blue #0000FF
magenta #FF00FF
I'm somewhat amused with you using the 80's instead of the FF's. =-) I guess I like using the "pure" stronger/brighter colors unless a specific shade is desired.

I'm a fan of darker colors in general :)

If that's how it's to be done, then which color goes to which group?

I don't know. While the wolves, coyote and fox may be able to make similiar sound, I don't think the Tasmanian Devil would. If the language was made more of gestures and inntonation, it might not be that hard for a human to mimic. We have remarkably versatile vocal cords. Honestly, I think it would boil down to the nature of the language itself.

Finally found some time to type up a post, but I'm actually kindof confused. Which thread do I post in? XD

My only concern with color-coding is that some of the players already use colors to denote when someone other than their own character is talking. Just... throwing it out there :/

Well, that and I generally hate color-coding, only partly because I type my rp posts in a word-processor. The less code I have to type in the better

Probably the cage room thread? I don't think Joanne got moved to one of the other cell-blocks, anyway.

Oh, I was not saying we should drop it now, I meant I wish it hadn't been brought up in the first place. ^.^'' Sorry if that comment was a bit confusing.

Since there should only be two 'group languages,' (maybe three if we decide the NPC team from B-Block got that far and will get speaking parts,) I'd just say first come, first serve. And you can take any color you want aside from one already claimed - I've seen grey and blue from Kayje depending on which character, shades of red from me, DayofGlory, and Haiku7, and I *think* that covers everyone who might/should be active.

We'll just be careful about explicitly saying who's saying what when. ;-)

heh heh, I guess I'm so used to coding that I type it in naturally whether I'm working on a word processor (e.g. writing Secret of the Aura) or online anyway (here, LiveJournal, etc.) ^.^''
If the team color is one of the 125 listed on the side of the 'post a reply' page, you can just type it up in your program w/o the code and quickly highlight/select once you copy/paste the text into the reply box - quick enough. =-)

Right.
btw In the cage room, Kayje told me a while ago that he wanted Quincy to be involved in the break-out there, so he may get things started there before one of the team members (from any team) brings a security card there themselves.

If red and blue have already been used, then in the absence of an assigned color, I'd like to put in a vote for Green for "C" block.

Of course, being only a fraction of "C" block, I can't make that choice for everyone, so: is there a second on that from the rest of us? or a counter-proposal?
