Okay, I brought up TVTropes in one of the reaction threads, and while it was mentioned we may want to wait until another chapter or so is completed before making a TVTropes page for Panthera, I just helped make the page for another webcomic that I follow (CharCole), so I've got the bug. ^.^ Anyway, I'm just wondering if you guys had any input as to what I could start with; I'm hoping to get a dozen or so tropes before I actually create the page.

Examples I've got so far:
Transformation Comic - duh.
Battle Couple - Jason+Kira
Tomboy and Girly Girl - Kira/Taylor
Panthera Awesome - again, duh.
Action Girl - Kira
Applied Phlebotinum - explanation for the transformation, though somewhat subverted because we do know that it is scientific in some way. Dunno what trope that would fit instead, though.
Five Man Band/Four Temperament Ensemble - Not sure which fits better; both have obvious fits to the Panthera group: FTE is obvious, and you can even include Ari due to the extensions of FTE. FMB isn't so obvious to me, since I'm having trouble splitting Pardus/Ari over SmartGuy/BigGuy (I'm thinking respectively?), though the others are obvious (Leo=Hero, Tigris=Lancer, Onca=Chick) and I feel like it already fits and I'm just being dense.

I'll stay out of suggestions, but let me at least reccomend waiting until the end of chapter 4 or 5 to make the page.

That said, please feel free to list tropes, it will actually make me quite happy. ^^ The ones you've suggested already look quite good--I didn't know there was a "Panthera Awesome" trope. Very, very true!!

I'd say the transformation explanation is closer to TechnoBabble, although Jason pretty much admits such. :p

Okay.... As I said, I had the bug the other day ^.^

Techno Babble.... Yeah.... That would work I guess, though now I'm getting into the same problem between Techno Babble/Applied Phlebotium that I had with Five Man Band/Four Temperment Ensemble, lol ^.^''

I'm going to go through the archives either later tonight or tomorrow and see if I can dig up some more tropes to list....

I would argue that this is more a suspension of disbelief thing, though I've heard it explained better then TVTropes does. Being a man of science (Kinda) I can tell you that without something crazy like vacuum energy or magic it is impossible to spontaneously generate mass (also controlling the elements is a not very scientific), so either they would be very anemic big cats or they would have to gain mass from somewhere. The idea of actually being able to change someone into another animal over a long time (days/weeks/months) is fairly scientific if not currently possible. What this comic seems to do is use a Technobable explanation, then rely on the readers suspension of disbelief to get by (a common tactic in star trek). The only other explanation is magic.

Well put; exactly what I was going for.

I do maintain that I didn't just make up words for technobabble; I applied actual ways to screw with DNA. But let's be honest, nobody can come up with a scientific explanation for controlling the wind or throwing fireballs from your paws. Fun requires suspension of disbelief. ^^

Course there is, you say its cause of magic. And if they complain, you cut them off immediately and reiterate "Magic". Then walk away.

Okay, new stuff:
Took a Level in Badass - Onca kicking Tigris's tail, and (arguably) angry!Pardus's KO'ing of Ovid guards

Also, found this while browsing:
Quote:
Poor Communication Kills:
In Panthera, Onca, who is inexperienced with her transformation, and consequently has trouble speaking in it, barely manages to convey the message that they've been tricked and are fighting the good guys instead of the bad guys to Tigris. However, in an almost comedic case of You Have To Believe Me, she fails to provide any of the evidence that led her to this conclusion, resulting in Tigris being disgusted that the villains managed to trick Onca into switching sides in a few hours. It doesn't help that Tigris views Onca as dangerously incompetent and naive.
Okay example, betails in it could be inaccurate, though, until we know for sure who are "the good guys" and "the bad guys" (all we have right now is each promoting themselves and decrying the others, with the four cats caught between).

I'll try to go in and make a page for Panthera and add in the above examples to the appropriate Trope pages by tomorrow afternoon.

And it'd be a nice bonus if you also add us to any of the pages of the tropes you put on our page--if that wordmash made any sense. :-)

Action Girl – Kira/Tigris

Altum Videtur – Leo Terrae, Tigris Ignis, Pardus Aeris and Onca Aquae.

Applied Phlebotinum – explanation for the transformation, though somewhat subverted because we do know that it is scientific in some way. Dunno what trope that would fit instead, though.

Battle Couple – Jason/Leo and Kira/Tigris.

Cat Girl – Close enough to count? Also, this.

Clingy Jealous Girl – Kira, definitely.

Elemental Powers – Duh?
* Dishing Out Dirt – Leo.
* Playing With Fire – Tigris.
* Blow You Away – Pardus.
* Making A Splash – Onca.

Five Man Band/Four Temperament Ensemble – Not sure which fits better; both have obvious fits to the Panthera group: FTE is obvious, and you can even include Ari due to the extensions of FTE. FMB isn't so obvious to me, since I'm having trouble splitting Fletcher/Ari over SmartGuy/BigGuy (I'm thinking respectively?), though the others are obvious (Jason=Hero, Kira=Lancer, Taylor=Chick) and I feel like it already fits and I'm just being dense.

Panthera Awesome - So Yeah..

Poor Communication Kills – Onca.

Talking Animal - Averted; they invented their own language.

Tall, Dark and Bishoujo – Kira.

Tomboy and Girly Girl – Kira and Taylor.

Took a Level in Badass - Onca kicking Tigris's tail, and (arguably) angry!Pardus KO'ing of Ovid guards.
* Beware The Nice Ones – Fletcher.
* Crouching Moron Hidden Badass – Pardus and Onca.
* Let's Get Dangerous – Onca and Tigris.

Transformation Comic – duh.
* Transformation Conventions – Jason, the leader, is a lion. What were you expecting?

Edit to alphabetise everything we've got so far, including my own examples. Might as well start now, right? ^^

The page is up! ^.^

I also added a couple more examples of Tropes that people had already added to the respective Trope pages.
Though I have no clue how to make the indexes work correctly... @_@

Am going through and adding Panthera to the Trope pages we've identified now.

I love it, dude! Thanks a ton.

One thing: there's no link on the page to the comic...? Can there be one of those? A LOT of people frequent TVTropes. ^^

Dunno if Eleental Rock Paper Scissors counts. I mean, yeah, Onca is kicking Tigris' ass in a most spectacular way, but pride comes before a fall and Tigris grossly underestimated Onca, y'know?
Or maybe I'm just thinking too much. xD

Agree w/ KingdomKey. Onca is not beating Tigris because water>fire. Heck, we're not even sure if the water attacks are causing "more damage" than other attacks would or not. Tigris was just so confident she let herself get sloppy on defense. That, and I bet even though they (minus Onca) have "trained" a lot, I doubt any of them would really know how to fight someone like them, someone who has that much control over an element.

Might I suggest Amulet of Concentrated Awesome? They do all wear amulets, after all.

EDIT: I'm also thinking Voluntary Shapeshifting (obvious) and maybe even Involuntary Shapeshifting for Onca's first transformation (which becomes voluntary afterwards).

How did we miss Voluntary/Involuntary Shapeshifting? XD *Quickly adds to the page.*

I think the amulets are more Transformation Trinkets, though. Amulet of Concentrated Awesome is when it's what makes them awesome, but it's implied (though not shown) they can transform without it, though with more difficulty. The amulets just focus the powers.

You'll all be happy to know that your efforts are bringing us 30-40 extra click-throughs a day.

Thank you, tropers! Keep it up!

If you think about it, Taylor pretty much defines Involuntary Shapeshifting. She was inducted into the group against her will, given the ability to become a jaguar against her will, and then forced to transform against her will.

EDIT: just a thought, would this count as a case of Godwin's Law?
