General InformationName: Damien Delmarson
AKA: After his powers manifest themselves, there may be those who call him "Compass"
Gender: Male
Age: 24
Place of Birth: Vegas
Inoculated: S-43 positive
Personality: To Damien, there are two kinds of authority: the ones in office, and the ones who know what the hell is going on. Damien's respect is primarily reserved for the latter, and those among the former who are not also among the latter(i.e, they got where they are by playing the system) are given only contempt. Politics and public opinion are of little interest to him, and as such it's impossible to use them against him. He is what he is, and if someone has a problem with that, telling him straight up what the problem is carries a much better chance of convincing him to change.
Thanks to the string of bad luck and poor planning that got Damien where he is today, he's now trying to take on a more practical approach to life. However, he's afraid that if he slows down long enough to let himself feel it, he'll be buried under the stress of everything that's happened recently. As a consequence, he tends to come off as a bit stiff, and doesn't often express emotions unless he's alone.
Socially speaking, Damien's outward manner is dependent on how well he knows you. He tends to put up a silent tough front at first, speaking only when spoken to, and not much even then. It takes time to get him to open up, but those select few who have the patience to earn genuine friendship from him will come to recognize an unswerving loyalty; if he calls you his friend, it means you can count on him for just about anything. If he ever asks for anything in return, it's because he genuinely needs it, and his most commonly requested favor is an open ear and a closed mouth.
Damien likes to think of himself as a man of basic integrity. He never leaves a debt unpaid, no matter how trivial it may seem, and he takes promises very seriously. He'll never make a promise that he doesn't think he can't keep, he makes damn sure that he does keep his promises once made, and he expects the same of everyone; those who deliver on their promises earn his loyalty that much faster, while those who are unable to justify their failure to deliver may lose it.
Threats are equally serious in Damien's mind. He is first and foremost a man of action, and anyone who physically threatens him or his friends, risks getting thumped for it. How much power he puts behind the blow depends on the severity of the threat that provoked it, and if a fight ensues as a result, he's not afraid to fight back. However, he does not particularly like violence as a rule, and tries to make a point of not fighting for longer than he has to.
Despite the trouble he has holding onto his human form(or perhaps because of it), he doesn't want to get used to his coyote body; to do so would feel too much like surrendering his human identity.
History: Raised by his single mother Victoria, Damien was an only child. A "go-with-the-flow" type of person, he got by with what he had. It wasn't much, but it was enough. He slid through grade school with low passes, never bothered with college, and ended up with a low-paying job and a cheap apartment. He was not unintelligent by any means; he simply lacked the foresight and ambition to live up to his full potential. As a result, he was unprepared for the day Victoria died.
Though nothing could be done to save her, Damien blamed himself for the loss of his mother, believing that if he'd had more money, he could have bought better care for her. When his feelings of guilt began to interfere heavily with his work, he was fired. Things kept going further and further downhill after that. His savings were burned away within a month, and with no other family to turn to, he was forced to sell most of his possessions in order to make the next month's rent. Knowing that it wasn't going to be enough to live off of, Damien decided to cut his losses. He left before they kicked him out, and started drifting away from the city that had chewed him up.
As times grew tougher, it became harder to roll with the punches, and Damien was desperate when Stark Operatives found him a month later; homeless, jobless, penniless, directionless and coming down with some bug he'd never experienced before. They offered him a home; they offered him a job; they offered him money. All they wanted in return, they said, was that he test their formula for a new panacea inoculation. It seemed a win-win for him; he was too weak from hunger by this time to fight the germ on his own, and he'd get a second chance at life in the process.
He should have asked questions. He should have asked where the formula had come from, and what was in it, and how long they'd been working on it. He should have asked if there had been any other test subjects before him, and what the results had been, and what they'd learned to expect from future tests. He should have asked why he hadn't seen any ads in the paper asking for guinea pigs, and why they'd come to a man with nothing left to lose.
Damien should have asked... but he was so fixated on the promises of tomorrow, that no questions entered his mind until one of their researchers jabbed the needle in his arm. By that time he could only scream as he wondered why, if the inoculation was meant to cure disease, did it feel like molten metal was being pumped into his blood? Then, mercifully, he fell unconscious.
Physical InformationVisual Appearance (completely optional): No image is available.
Physical Appearance: As a coyote, Damien is on the larger side of normal. He stands roughly two feet tall at the shoulder, with a total length of just over four feet, and weighs about 45 lbs, give or take a few ounces. He bears a yellow-gray pelt, with rust-colored fur on the top of his muzzle, paws, and forelegs. Nothing out of the ordinary for a desert coyote.
There are no truly distinct marks on Damien's pelt, save for the mark on his back; an almost-black patch of gray fur in the shape of a medieval knight's sword is centered between his shoulder-blades. The pommel rests against the base of Damien's neck, and the blade ends just above his tail.
In human form, Damien stands at a height of 5' 11", and weighs a lean 180 lbs. His eyes are a dull green, and his short, golden-blond hair is slightly messy, as though he combs it with his fingers(he does). Little or no fat is visible on Damien's human body, and he might be considered attractive, in a "bad dude" kind of way, if not for the overall look of being somewhat malnourished.
Because of a quirk in his dose of S-43x, Damien's human DNA has been almost completely overwritten by that of a coyote. As a result, his human skin reflects the color of his coyote pelt. The middle of his face, from the bridge of his nose, under his eyes, and down to the corners of his mouth, appears to be moderately sunburned because of this, and the same red marks adorn his forearms and the backs of his hands. The rest of his skin, apart from the dark gray "sword" on his back, is a pale golden.
Clothing and Armor: Because the amount of time Damien can spend in human form is limited, he tends to wear clothes that he can slide out of easily when he transforms back into a coyote. Toward this end, he'll often be seen wearing pants that are half a size too large, held up by a simple elastic belt with a Velcro buckle, and an open-front shirt. Unless it has a large neckline, he never wears a pullover anything, and no laced shoes, ever.
Damien adheres to these self-imposed limits only in the interest of practicality; if he were introduced to the benefits of purely organic clothing, it'd be different.
In coyote form, Damien's magnetic power allows him to create crude armor for himself, provided he can collect enough metal. Otherwise, he wears only his fur.
Weapons Damien has some martial arts skill, mostly self-taught. However, he has yet to successfully integrate that skill into his coyote body.
Inoculated onlyAlternate Form Coyote
Abilities Damien's body passively generates a magnetic field at all times, through which he can sense other magnetic forces, even in human form. This gives him a superb sense of direction; when you're a living compass, it's easy to remember where you've been. However, as with any other compass, the application of a secondary magnetic force could interfere with this passive ability.
In coyote form, Damien is able to strengthen and extend his magnetic field in a given direction, allowing him to attract or repel nearby metal. Sidestepping around the metal he attracts makes him capable of throwing it in a different direction than it came from, but his ability to reshape metal is limited to bending it around himself, which is how he builds his armor. Given practice, this may change.
Damien's power over metal is limited by weight ratios; the heavier the chunk of metal, the harder it is for him to move or bend it. A section of metal that's too heavy for Damien to move can still be hit by his magnetic force, causing Damien to move instead. Finding an anchor such as this is Damien's primary method for moving while he's armored, simply because his armor tends to be heavier than he'd like.
Other InformationFaction: Inoc'ed; seeks cure. Who he joins with in the course of that search has yet to be determined.
Bonus Section: 1) His stress-related nervous disorder aside, Damien needs to stay in control of his emotions if he wants to stay in control of his power. When he becomes angry or scared in coyote form, he may start to lose focus, and his magnetic field may start to react on its own, producing an unpredictable yo-yo effect on the surrounding metal. If he ever gives in to panic, his maximum repulsive force is immediately launched in all directions, hitting every piece of metal within his range(and if he happens to be armored at that moment, this essentially turns him into a large frag bomb).
2) Despite being set at a low power by default, Damien's passive magnetic field can accidentally set off metal detectors if he's not careful, and he must actively choose to suppress it if he wants to avoid that. This is not usually an issue, as he can sense the magnetic force of those metal detectors and prepare for it, but it's worth mentioning at least once that if he's carried past one while he's unconscious, it will go off.
3) Damien's transformations to and from human form are a little like flexing a muscle. The initial transformation into human form doesn't cause any pain in and of itself, but after a short time wearing his human form, Damien will begin to experience a dull headache. The headache will gradually increase in severity until he relaxes the "muscle" and returns to his coyote body.
Of course, if becoming human is like flexing a muscle, then reverting to coyote shape is like stretching a cramped one; the pain gets worse before it subsides.
4) Because Damien's power is centered around magnetic force, his mineral amulet, if ever he obtains one, might work better for him(GM's discretion) if it contained minerals with magnetic properties, such as lodestone or hematite(I've heard a little bit about rocks; sue me

).
